Our Why

Amanda was 14 when her gran, Joan Page, was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2008.

They had been very close and this continued, Amanda going to Leeds from her home in Bradford after school to go and see how her gran was getting on, to then helping her gran move into sheltered accommodation, finishing in Amanda looking after her gran from 2016.

Joan had always loved singing, having a song for any phrase you used. This continued when dementia was diagnosed, however Joan became a lot quieter as the disease progressed - only coming out of her shell with music and interactivity during this.

Amanda and Joan visited many 'dementia' singing classes but felt occasionally something was lacking. Joan would get forgotten about as she wasn't as vocal as other participants and needed a little more interactivity,

All the songs, movement, interactivity and even costumes have had to get the seal of approval from Joan herself!

Sadly Joan passed away on 27th November 2020 from COVID-19. She will be forever missed and Singalong Days will continue to strive to be the best in her memory.

Never forgotten.
